In 2003 Researchers at the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Research Center at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix Arizona have found that a large number of patients taking Mirapex have gambled themselves deeply into debt. In 2005 a Mayo Clinic study also linked Mirapex and similar Parkinsons drugs to compulsive gambling.
Reports of loses of up to $14 million by patients on the drug are shocking. Doctors and drug companies should be warning Parkinsons patients of this danger and checking up after the drugs are prescribed.
Mirapex was among top-selling Parkinson’s drugs last year, with more than $200 million in U.S. sales. It is also prescribed for restless leg syndrome.
